Ukraine Deployment

dComms was launched by eQualitie in February 2022 in response to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. We offered Ukrainian users decentralized Internet services such as Mastodon, Matrix, Ceno Browser and Briar. Users themselves have control over these services, unlike the social networks of tech giants that can limit communication on their platforms.

We offered a list of various services that allow Ukrainians to communicate using an open and free protocol – these services are located on 10 local servers across Ukraine to ensure the possibility of communication between users over the local network, regardless of what is happening.

As of October 2024, the data from dComms in Ukraine:

Element

  • 3,500 active users
  • Over 4,000 public and private rooms

Mastodon

  • 1600 Users
  • 260,000 toots published

User feedback

“It’s very useful to have an alternative to big social networks, I like the fact that it’s decentralized. I’m here twenty-four hours a day”
