CITAD

The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) is a leading organization in Nigeria dedicated to leveraging technology for social development. Our work spans digital inclusion, cybersecurity, civic engagement, and artificial intelligence (AI) research with a focus on practical applications that address local and global challenges. With head office in Kano, it has offices located in Abuja (FCT), Bauchi, Jigawa, Kaduna, and Gombe States as well as outreach offices in a number of other states across the country. Its vision is to empower citizens for a just and knowledge-based society that is anchored on sustainable and balanced development using ICT, Capacity Development, Advocacy, Research and Partnership. CITAD house power in digital skills and knowledge and in digital policy analysis. Its work on digital inclusion has seen it empowering several communities across the country to established community centred connectivity initiatives that have seen these hitherto unconnected communities now connected to digital world.

Local Communities Served:

Jammare, Itas and Kano Communities
 Both Jama’are and Itas, the headquarters of Jama’are and Itas/Gadau Local Governments respectively, are rural communities located in the flood plains of the Hadejia-Jama’are River Basin at the northern fringe of Bauchi State in the North Eastern part of the country. The Northeast of Nigeria has suffered an ongoing violent insurgency, which has among other things, destroyed telecommunication infrastructure as well as schools in the region.

While rich in agricultural lands, that makes them striving commercial communities, they suffer frequent flooding. In both to places, CITAD has in partnership with APC and Hello World established a digital hub and community networks, serving unconnected communities.Kano is the administrative headquarters of Kano State in the North West of Nigeria. It is the commercial centre of northern Nigeria and perhaps the most populous state in the country. With a long history of international trade as a main caravan terminus, it sits at a crossroads that links several trading routes. Kano State is also a historical centre of learning and as well as site of the concentration of modern higher educational institutions.
